Mooka + Assunta

For me, Mooka + Assunta = a. hot. mess.

But, for what it's worth, I decided to venture into the Diva's Weekly Challenge anyway.  Why?  Because, Assunta is a completely new pattern for me, and I actually tried to spend some time working with it.  In the end, I went simpler and tried to utilize shading, a Zentangle skill that I rarely employ.  I found that shading can really enhance a drawing without needing to "add" anything else to it.  Sometimes, with Zentangle, I think the tangle looks too plain, so I keep adding to it, but the end result looks "busy" which I don't care for.

I learned a few things this week, and while my art project isn't the prettiest one in the class, I made a sincere effort.

For the challenge:

I think it has a little bit of a celtic knot "feel" to it.

Other attempts:

Busy.  Busy.  Busy.

Vintage Camera fun:

love the sparkles.

All of these tangles were drawn in my Clairefontaine Graf-It sketchbook with a Sakura Pigma Micron.

  2. I love what you've done with Assunta. You combined it with Mooka beautifully, especially in the first one. It is nice and "plain", but I also like "busy" as you can probably tell with mine.

    1. Thank you so much for commenting. I am delighted to hear your feedback. I don't think your tiles look busy at all. I think they are just lovely, and have a very "clean" look even though the tile is full with design. I also think you did a very nice job of creating a feeling of harmony between the two patterns. I enjoyed your tiles very much!

  4. I think your first tile in particular is very pretty indeed! And your shading is perfect. I also loved what you did with assunta, and the auras around mooka, in your second tile. Lovely work.

  6. These look great. I really love how you have elongated the pointy ends of your assunta in the first tile.

  7. They are all absolutely lovely. Your tangleations of assunta in the one with the auras is really pretty. The first one is particularly lovely with your exquisite shading, but they are all pretty.

    1. Thank you! You are very kind! This was my first "real" venture with shading. And, the first time I actually used that little blender stick that comes with the Zentangle kit. =)
